Call for volunteers and Board members for the 2021/2022 Board of the Edgemont Community Association.
The Annual General meeting and election of new board members will occur virtually on May 12th, 2021.
By May, the Edgemont Community Association will have operated under various levels of lockdown conditions for over a year. We have held our meetings by Zoom and revamped the operations of the community centre to operate in a low-cost efficient manner and minimize losses.
During this COVID-19 crisis the importance of the community association has become clear. Despite the building being partially closed, our volunteer coordinator and volunteers have stepped up to organize the Good Food Box deliveries, find volunteers to donate and deliver food and other supplies to our residents, and to collect and publish information on services available during the pandemic. Our outdoor skating rink has provided an opportunity for much need recreation and our building exterior and grounds were used extensively for exercise and outdoor social gatherings in the summer.
We have a dedicated and creative staff at the community centre with great ideas of how to operate the facility through the pandemic and return to generating a profit when the pandemic is over. The profit made allows the community association to continue to offer a variety of social, intellectual, and physical programing to our residents and members.
The ECA board currently has 14 board members. We have six board members completing their second year. They will stand for election again as they have chosen to continue to serve. We have five board members who have completed the first year of their two-year term and will complete their second year. We have four open positions for the Board at this point, as four board members completing their term have chosen to step down.
What we need is new people to step into leadership roles; we need new board members, committee members and volunteers. Between the community association and the ELM program we operate a large capital budget, and we need community members on the board to provide oversight and direction for the use of our community assets. We meet monthly as a board; committees meet more often when projects are being developed and our volunteers are always in demand. For your community association to continue to develop and thrive we need you! Please consider supporting the ECA by buying a membership and helping by volunteering or serving on the board or on one of our committees.
The commitment for a board position is at least one board meeting a month, serving on at least one committee, and participating actively in discussing and decision making on the issues that affect the community association. Time wise, it is a commitment of 10 to 20 hours a month, more if you are so inclined. The reward is a chance to engage in thoughtful debate, stretch your mind while dealing with issues, and social interaction with a fellowship of community residents. You need to be a member in good standing at least a month prior to election, that means you must be an adult resident of the community and hold an ECA membership.
Please email the community office at [email protected] if you are interested in helping and we can send the proper forms to you for nomination to the board or for volunteering in another capacity. Nominations are allowed from the floor at the AGM but those who fill out the nomination package have the advantage of having their information shown to AGM participants prior to the meeting.
