We have been receiving reports of problematic coyote behaviour in the Edgemont neighborhood, around the Edgemont Offleash Park and the Edgemont Lookout Point. The issues have specifically been in the greenspace behind the homes on Edenstone Road NW, Edenstone View NW and Edenstone Way NW, mostly occurring while people were walking dogs along the path.
There is a den nearby that is resulting in increased territorial behaviour and aggression.
Signs have been posted on the pathway to warn of coyote activity. Wildlife management contractors have been on-site throughout the week to conduct behavioral modification through hazing, in an effort reduce the aggression and territorial behaviour. The situation will continue to be monitored, there will be wildlife management contractors on site, and reports received through the 311 system will be responded to.
We would like for residents to be aware of the potential risk, and exercise caution when walking their dogs in the area. Even though it is an off-leash area, it would be safer to keep pets on leashes to reduce the chance of an encounter.
