The Edgemont Community Centre has managed to stay open, when allowed, and continues to adapt and
roll with the new AHS regulations as they come at us. We have adopted the Restriction Exemption
Program at the Community Centre. Only persons with a vaccine certificate, a letter to indicate a medical
issue, or a recent negative Covid test are permitted to use the facility.
Worship and other special services are continuing without certificate requirements but at reduced
capacity and with social distancing. Anyone in the building must be masked except for vaccinated
persons during physical activity. Parents dropping off or picking up children are allowed to do so but
cannot linger in the building.
We continue to share space with the Edgemont School, and they are using our main hall as an extra
room during school days. Unfortunately, the Calgary Board of Education has closed their gyms to the
public, so we are not able to offer our usual range of fitness activities for youth. This is hurting our
basketball and other sport programs. Our Breakfast Club support program is continuing but volunteers
drop off the food at homes instead of having people come to the door to pick them up.
Our building staff, backed up by board members and volunteers, are working hard to keep the building
as safe as possible. We spend extra time cleaning and sanitizing each day with a focus on keeping touch
points safe. We require our staff to be tested if they have been exposed to Covid 19 and they only work
when they are healthy. Our staff minimizes any close contact with clients and continue to work in very
isolated conditions, they deserve praise for how they have stepped up to keep our facility operating.
