Edgemont’s “Secret Angels” generously and creatively put their talents to work for the Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre (SKCAC).
Last Fall and over the Christmas season sewing and knitting enthusiasts took to their sewing machines and knitting needles for Kids. Beautiful blankets, quilts and infant toques were made with love in an effort to help bring some comfort to those children entering the care and need of SKCAC. Board of Directors, Brett Redpath and Jane Coates delivered the “Basket of Love” to the Centre in January.
Sara Austin, Chief Executive Officer of SKCAC accepted the gifts on behalf of the Centre and generously provided an educational tour, of the state of the art facility, located between the Children’s Hospital and the University of Calgary. Brett Redpath, 1st Vice President of the Edgemont Community Centre noted,” This is really something. What a brilliant concept to have so many services under one roof for the sake of kids.”
The Centre is a centre of excellence, recognized worldwide, in integrating services for children that have experienced sexual abuse. A place where the right support is provided with care at the right time in an effort to reduce the long-term impact of trauma, as well as, enable children, youth and families to recover as they pursue the quest for a healthy, productive and caring life.
